One of my FAVORITE memories about California from my childhood are our trips to the beach. I absolutely LOVE the beach. I knew I had to take my kids to see the ocean. Jenna, also loves the beach. However, the only beaches she knows are the sandy shores of Lake Powell, but she knows they are pretty special. She asked all week when we were going to go the beach and still asks when we will go again, to this day. 2 weeks later.
It was a bit breezy and quite chilly. But still an amazing site. Jared's sister had just moved to Southern California and we were lucky enough to meet up with her and my nephew for the afternoon. I'm so grateful they took time to come and see us. The kids had so much fun chasing the waves. (Some kids a bit more than others.) Here are some of my favorite photos from that day.
A picture Jared took of me and my girls.
Here is a picture of the kids at the beach. It didn't take long before they kicked off their shoes, folded up their jeans and started playing in the freezing cold water.
Jenna loved the water. She could have stayed there all day, I'm sure.
It wasn't long before she started chasing the waves, or rather the waves chased her.
She found the perfect sea shell. Perfect for digging in the sand.
Lindsey also loved the ocean. She looked so beautiful, so peaceful.
I loved watching the two girls together. I COULD have stayed there all day.
Jens wasn't too sure about the cold water and was quite reserved.
but it wasn't long before Lars and Lij were soaked. To the bone. And FREEZING. As you can see from this family picture.
They found a warm spot to dry off on the block wall. But it wasn't really that warm.
After we got them changed we walked along the pier to the restaurant to eat lunch. Jenna couldn't take her eyes off the water.
We saw a huge pelican that loved attention from the crowd. Hoping for scraps of food I'm sure.
And one last family picture with the shoreline in the background. It was the perfect relaxing afternoon.
After lunch we said our goodbyes to our family and headed the 2 hours to San Diego. The sunset was truly amazing. I would never tire of this view. I loved it. Even making Jared pull off the freeway so I could get some pictures. Even now I miss the ocean, the smells, the breeze, the sound. *sigh*
Come back tomorrow for my last blog post about our LAST day in California. :(
